Oaxaca and the Ruins of Monte Alban
Oaxaca is a very colourful and quaint town with a beautiful cathedral and a very lively main square, with umpteen Mariachis playing to the restaurant clientele, and at present is very Christmassy, packed with red Poinsettas and Christmas lights.
Monte Alban is a Zapotec site from around 500 BC – perhaps it is not the most exciting in Mexico but it was quite interesting to see the petroglyphs of supposedly captured enemies with their genitals removed and replaced with a flower – representing the flow of blood.
Here are the photos.
